Lincoln baseball blanked twice

JOPLIN, Mo. - The Lincoln baseball team managed just five hits in a total of 14 innings while falling 7-0 and 10-0 to Missouri Southern on Thursday.

Lincoln got four of those five hits in the opener, but Missouri Southern had nine while beating the Blue Tigers 7-0.

The Lions scored two runs in both the second and fourth innings before adding three in the fifth.

Jordan Barrett was the losing pitcher, giving up three runs, although just one was earned, in three innings. He allowed four hits and three walks while striking out one.

Gus Goodnight followed and allowed four earned runs on five hits and one walk in two innings. Cameron Massman worked a scoreless final inning, striking out one.

The Blue Tigers then got outhit 14-1 - the lone hit being a one-out single by Daniel Castillo in the second inning - while falling in the nightcap.

Dalton Goings (0-3), the first of four Lincoln pitchers, took the loss. He gave up three earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out one in 31/3 innings.

Missouri Southern improved to 31-9 overall and 21-5 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. Lincoln dropped to 3-37 and 2-20.

The Blue Tigers and Lions will play a single nine-inning game today.
