Former manager of restaurant charged with stealing

A Jefferson City woman has been charged with stealing more than $10,000 while working as a manager at Lee's Chicken on Missouri Boulevard.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows Pamela Reed, 48, admitted to stealing money from the business.

She said she had been stealing money from the store's cash register, taking about $60 to $80 a week.

Reed told authorities how she covered the losses by taking cash from customers, ringing the transaction as a gift card and pocketing the cash.

Reed had been working at Lee's since June 2014, and according to store records, losses have increased compared to the months prior to Reed's coming on board.

The total loss from the gift card line of store records shows $10,214.

The videos from in-store security show Reed taking the cash.

Reed said she wasn't sure how much she had embezzled from the company, but said she also stole money from the Lee's restaurant in Columbia, in the same manner, prior to her coming to work in Jefferson City.
