Goodwill seeking donor who left $1,900 in clothing

Officials at Goodwill are looking for someone who donated a piece of clothing earlier this month in Jefferson City that had $1,900 inside of it.

"It happened on the sales floor of our store on Missouri Boulevard," said Goodwill CEO Dave Kutchback. "A 9-year-old girl was shopping with her father, and she found the money in a clothing item she was looking at. It was great that she turned it in so we can try and find the rightful owner."

Kutchback said this occasionally happens during this time of year when spring cleaning takes place.

"Check your pockets first," he advised. "We get people who are wanting to do the right thing by donating items, and this happens."

Goodwill locations in Fenton and Carbondale, Illinois, also reported large amounts of money being found in donated materials this month.

"We'll look at video to see where the donations may have come from," Kutchback said. "Sometimes it's off of one of our trucks. We just want to get the message out so that we find the rightful owner."

Kutchback asks that the person or persons who donated this clothing should call the Goodwill office in St. Louis at 314-982-8802.

"I was impressed with the 9-year-old doing the right thing," he said. "We will be giving her a reward for doing that."
