Baseball: Eugene goes 1-1

IBERIA - Eugene split two games Saturday at the Iberia Spring Tournament, defeating Tipton 5-4 and falling 5-4 to Iberia.

Against Tipton, the Eagles cancelled out an early 3-0 Tipton lead with a three-run top of the second. Both teams scored a run in the third, and Eugene pushed one across in the seventh to take the lead for good.

Seven Eagles had one hit apiece. Adam Schenewerk led the way with two RBI.

Mason Kirkweg threw all seven innings for Eugene, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits. He struck out five and walked two.

Against Iberia, Eugene took an early lead, scoring one in the second, but Iberia scored at least one run in each of the next four innings to hold off the Eagles.

Nolan Wunderlich, Corey Love, Blake Rains and Caleb Darnel each had two hits for Eugene, and Darnel had the lone RBI.

On the mound, Wunderlich allowed just five hits in his six innings of work, and three of his runs were unearned. He gave up a homer, walked three and hit a batter to go with eight strikeouts.

Eugene (6-3) hosts Cole Camp at 5 p.m. today.
