Your Opinion: Minority rule, not majority rule

Dear Editor:

This is a follow-up of my letter published March 25 titled "Mizzou students commended for showing film." The subject of my letter was to congratulate the University of Missouri students association to vote to allow a campus screening of "American Sniper" over the objections of one Muslim student.

In contrast, I refer to the following April 8 article by Derek Draplin titled "Univ. of Michigan cancels "American Sniper' screening: "Made students feel unsafe'". (http://www.thecollegefix.com/post/21937/). A quote from the article: "A scheduled movie screening of "American Sniper" at the University of Michigan was abruptly cancelled Tuesday after nearly 300 students and others complained the film perpetuates "negative and misleading stereotypes" against Muslims."

When are we as a country going to return to the Founding Fathers intent when creating our Constitution and Bill of Rights? Nowhere in those documents is there a guarantee that includes fairness, tolerance or diversity as a foundation for any authoritative action, legal or illegal! No, it was freedom for all, based on the will of a majority, not special treatment for any minority, protester or anyone who thought life wasn't fair. Life isn't fair and no authority can make it fair.

Why not show "American Sniper?" If you're offended, don't attend the showing.

If you don't like the American flag, move to the country where you can wave whatever flag you want! Why should anyone be required to live in an area governed by people who apparently don't respect our flag enough to say no the one who may be offended.

If you want to pay higher taxes to the government to try to change the climate, move to a country that already does it. Don't expect me to support a stupid idea like that because George Shultz thinks it's a good idea.

If you want everyone to support and celebrate gay marriages then move to a country where that's the culture. Don't force me to do it! (http://www.breitbart.com/big-journalism/2015/04/08/nyt-writer-christianity-must-be-made-to-embrace-gay-lifestyle/)

If you're comfortable with being forced to pay for killing the unborn, then move to a country where this is accepted, don't expect the majority of Americans to pay for them because of a few irresponsible people.

Maybe we should just replace the Constitution and Bill of Rights with a document that reads "Fairness and tolerance for all. Protesters welcome"!
