Softball Tigers split first two

In series between MU and Mississippi State

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri softball team split the first two games of a weekend series with Mississippi State, winning 3-2 Friday and losing 8-4 Saturday.

In Friday's game, Tori Finucane and Paige Lowary shared the pitching duties. Finucane (13-6) pitched four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks and striking out three to earn the win. Lowary threw three innings in relief, allowing two runs on three hits, three walks and five strikeouts. She earned her second save of the season.

At the plate, Missouri was led by Corrin Genovese and Kirsten Mack, each of whom had two hits. Mack had Missouri's lone RBI. The Tigers scored two runs on errors.

In Saturday's contest, the game was scoreless through three innings, but the Bulldogs plated one in the fourth, six in the sixth, and one in the seventh.

Lowary (11-3) took the loss. She pitched three-plus innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits and three walks. Finucane allowed five runs in 21/3 innings, and Cheyenne Baxter allowed two runs in 12/3 innings of work.

Genovese and Roth each had two hits.

Missouri (25-10, 7-7 Southeastern Conference) finishes the series with Mississippi State at 2:30 p.m. today.
