ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Mike Moustakas and Salvador Perez homered during a five-run fourth inning against Jered Weaver, and the defending AL champion Kansas City Royals extended their season-opening winning streak to five games with a 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night.

Jeremy Guthrie (1-0) threw 94 pitches in his season debut, allowing four runs and six hits in seven innings as he began a $25 million, three-year contract. It was his first start that mattered since he took the loss in World Series Game 7 against San Francisco.

Greg Holland followed Wade Davis out of the bullpen and pitched a perfect ninth inning for his third save. The Royals and Atlanta are the only big league teams whose relievers have not allowed a run.

Weaver (0-2) threw 85 pitches in 4 1-3 innings and was charged with six runs, seven hits and four walks.

Held hitless through three innings, the Royals sent nine men to the plate in the fourth and took a 5-1 lead. Moustakas led off with a drive deep into the seats in right-center, Alex Rios hit a go-ahead two-run single and Perez capped the rally with a two-out, two-run homer just inside the left-field pole.

Eric Hosmer chased Weaver with a single in the fifth after a one-out walk to Lorenzo Cain, and former Angels switch-hitter Kendrys Morales greeted Drew Rucinski with an RBI single - the third pitch in the majors by the right-hander after he got ahead in the count 0-2.

The Angels closed to 6-4 in the bottom half with Calhoun's two-out, two-run double and an RBI single by AL MVP Mike Trout. Calhoun is 4 for 7 against Guthrie with two homers and six RBIs.

Calhoun, who tied for the major league lead last season with 17 home runs in the leadoff spot, drove a 1-0 pitch to left-center for his fifth career leadoff homer.

Alex Gordon, the only one in Kansas City's starting lineup without a hit, was plunked by Cesar Ramos in the seventh inning, and Moustakas was hit in the ninth by Jose Alvarez. The Royals have had nine batters hit by pitches in their first five games.

This was the first matchup between Weaver and Guthrie since Aug. 29, 2010, when Guthrie pitched Baltimore to a 1-0 victory as Matt Wieters hit a sacrifice fly.

TROUT HAS BLOSSOMED EARLIER THAN MOST

If Trout homers in any of his next three games, the Angels' 23-year-old center fielder would join Eric Davis as the only players in big league history with at least 100 home runs, 100 stolen bases and 300 RBIs in their first 500 regular-season games. It also would put Trout alongside CF Darin Erstad as the only players in Angels history with at least 100 homers and 100 steals - and make him the youngest to accomplish the feat.

UP NEXT

Royals: RHP Yordano Ventura, the youngest opening-day starter in the majors this year at 23, is coming off a 10-1 win at Chicago in which he left in the seventh inning after 81 pitches because of a cramp in his thumb. His only other appearance at Angel Stadium was in Game 2 of the AL Division Series, when he gave up one run over seven innings before Hosmer's two-run homer in the 11th helped the Royals win.

Angels: LHP C.J. Wilson is making his second start, after pitching eight innings of two-hit ball in a 2-0 victory at Seattle last Tuesday. He is 4-0 with six saves in 17 career games against Kansas City, including seven starts - but took the loss in the finale of last year's ALDS, which completed the Royals' three-game sweep.
