JC man charged after domestic assault incident

A Jefferson City man was being held on $100,000 bond in the Cole County Jail after a domestic violence incident Thursday night in Apache Flats.

Curtis Kerr, 33, 5101 West Business 50, is charged with two counts of third-degree assault and one count of second-degree property damage.

A Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement shows Kerr and the female victim got into a fight earlier in the day where Kerr had thrown a burrito at her, which burned her face.

The victim said Kerr had asked to use her phone that night, and when she said no, he grabbed her by the hair and punched her several times in the face.

After this, the victim said Kerr took her phone and broke it so she couldn't call police. Kerr also put a chair in front of a door to prevent her from leaving.

The victim also said Kerr told her if she called police he would kill her in her sleep. He then pulled a knife out and put it to his throat and told her if she called police he would kill himself in front of children who were in the home.

The victim was able to get out of the house, and Kerr chased after her. She got to a neighbor's house and called 911.

Kerr was later located near the house and taken into custody.

Authorities said the victim had two small cuts on her lip, some swelling under her right eye and a burn mark on her cheek under her left eye.

Kerr refused to give a statement to authorities.

He has two prior convictions for third-degree domestic assault.
