Lincoln drops baseball twinbill to Northeastern St.

The Lincoln Blue Tigers managed just 10 hits while dropping both halves of a baseball doubleheader, falling 10-2 and 15-1 to the Northeastern State RiverHawks on Friday at Lincoln Field.

The Blue Tigers only got outhit 7-6 in the opening game, but lost by the eight-run margin thanks to seven walks and one hit batter.

The RiverHawks scored three runs in the top of the first thanks to a double, a walk and a three-run home run and never looked back.

Lincoln got its first run in the third. Mason Price singled and advanced all the way to third on the play thanks to an error by the center fielder. He then scored on a groundout by Daniel Castillo.

Northeastern State broke the game open with five runs in the top of the fourth on three hits and four walks, making it 8-1.

The Blue Tigers scored a run in the bottom half of that frame when Trevor Schnieders smacked a solo homer.

Northeastern State got its final two runs in the sixth inning on two hits, one walk and one error.

Schnieders ended up with two hits and one RBI to pace the Blue Tigers on offense, while Kolton Clark added a pair of hits.

Adam Stegeman (0-3) took the loss, pitching the first 32/3 innings. He gave up eight earned runs on five hits and six walks. Gus Goodnight finished on the mound, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and one walk while striking out one in 31/3 innings.

The Blue Tigers then got outhit 17-4 while losing the nightcap.

Northeastern State got one run in the first, three in the second and two in the third to go up 6-0.

The RiverHawks added eight runs in the top of the sixth inning before the Blue Tigers got on the board with an RBI groundout by Dillon Walker that made it 14-1.

Northeastern State got the final run in the top of the seventh.

Kaleb Davis had a single and a double to account for half of Lincoln's hits.

Jordan Barrett (1-4) was the losing pitcher for the Blue Tigers. He allowed 11 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits and two walks while striking out two in five innings.

Ryan Simpson pitched the final two innings and gave up four earned runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out one.

The Blue Tigers (2-32 overall, 1-21 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) and RiverHawks (21-14, 14-12) will play another doubleheader today with the first pitch set for 1 p.m.
