Fulton couple suffers loss of home in fire

A Fulton couple is currently living with relatives after their home on County Road 428 caught fire Wednesday night.

South Callaway Fire Protection District firefighters responded to the residence at 8:59 p.m., according to SCFPD Chief Jeff Wallendorff. When firefighters arrived, Wallendorff said the home was three quarters of the way engulfed in flames. Firefighters extinguished the blaze 10 minutes later.

Wallendorff said the couple was not home during the fire. A state fire marshal was on scene, and the cause of the fire is undetermined. Wallendorff said there will be no further investigation due to the severity of the damage. The Central Fire Protection District assisted SCFPD and Callaway County Ambulance were on stand by for firefighters.

American Red Cross volunteers provided food, clothing and shelter to the couple, according to a Red Cross press release. They also gave the couple Red Cross comfort kits, which include personal hygiene products. Volunteers will monitor their recovery process.
