Area school districts elect board members, OK issues

Some results from around Mid-Missouri

Below is a roundup of results from contested races and ballot issues in area school districts within the News Tribune's coverage area that cross county lines.

California School District

CALIFORNIA - The incumbents - Paul Bloch and Jay VanDieren - won re-election to the California School Board Tuesday.

The Moniteau County-based school district also includes a portion of western Cole County, but no votes were recorded for any of the candidates in Cole County.

The candidates and their districtwide vote totals were: Paul Bloch, 314; Jay VanDieren, 278; Paula Wolken, 272; Kristie Glenn, 228; and Mike Staton, 227.

Jamestown C-1 School District

JAMESTOWN - The Jamestown C-1 School District voters on Tuesday approved a 95-cent levy increase for various facility improvements, by a 276-231-vote margin.

The issue needed a simple majority to pass.

The increase will affect tax bills that are sent out at the end of the year.

The Moniteau County-based school district also includes a portion of northwestern Cole County.

William Scheperle and Carrie Crouch were elected to the school board. Because there were only two candidates for the two open seats, state law allowed the district to fill the seats without placing the names on the ballot, so there are no vote totals to report.

Eugene School District

EUGENE - Ryan Carrender and Byron F. Shaw Jr. were elected to the Eugene School Board on Tuesday.

The school district includes portions of Cole and Miller counties.

The candidates and their districtwide vote totals were: Ryan Carrender, 184; Byron F. Shaw Jr., 142; Gail Binkley, 131; and Rob Trenary, 116.

Eldon School District

ELDON - Duane Kliethermes and Jerome Atterberry won the two seats on the Eldon R-1 School Board in Tuesday's election.

The Miller County-based district also includes a portion of Morgan County.

The candidates and their districtwide vote totals were: Duane Kliethermes, 407; Jerome Atterberry, 396; and Kirk Earlewhine, 273.

Fatima School District

WESTPHALIA - Steven Gerarg Brune and Charlene Eisterhold were elected to the Osage County R-3/Fatima School Board in Tuesday's election.

The Osage County-based district also includes a portion of Miller County - but no votes were cast for the candidates in Miller County.

The candidates and their districtwide vote totals were: Steven Gerarg Brune, 321; Charlene Eisterhold, 272; Brenda Kay Rehagen, 222; and Erin Mollie Rasmussen, 63.

Owensville School District

OWENSVILLE - Deborah Landolt and Wendell Bryan Curtman won election to the Owensville School Board in Tuesday's election.

Voters also overwhelmingly approved a $5.5 million bond issue to maintain or upgrade the school district's buildings and to support educational opportunities, by a 918-393-vote margin.

The bond issue needed a 4/7 majority to pass, and won by a 70 percent to 30 percent margin.

Passing the issue continues the current debt service levy of 67 cents for each $100 in assessed property value.

The Gasconade County-based school district also includes portions of Osage and Franklin counties.

The candidates and their districtwide vote totals were: Deborah Landolt, 821; Wendell Bryan Curtman, 660; and Russell Farrell, 590.

Linn School District

LINN - Neil F. Loethen and Mark S. Meyer won election to the Linn School Board in Tuesday's election.

The school district includes portions of Osage, Franklin and Gasconade counties. The top two vote-getters in the race won the seats.

The candidates and their districtwide vote totals were: Neil F. Loethen, 319; Mark S. Meyer, 270; and Nicholas McKague, 137.
