Missouri softball falls to Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. - After watching the Missouri softball team rally to tie the game Sunday with three runs in the top of the seventh, the Georgia Bulldogs won it by pushing across a run in the bottom of the frame.

The 5-4 victory won the series for the Bulldogs, as they took two of three from the Tigers.

Both teams scored a run in the first, Missouri's coming on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Kelsea Roth.

Georgia then went ahead with one run in the fourth and two in the fifth to make it 4-1.

But Missouri came roaring back with the three in the seventh thanks to two Georgia errors that allowed a run to score each time. The other run came in on a pinch-hit RBI single by Jordan Zolman.

After getting the first out in the bottom of the seventh, Missouri intentionally walked Alex Hugo and unintentionally walked Anna Swafford. Tina Iosefa then smacked a single to left field that scored Swafford with the winning run.

Amanda Sanchez had a pair of hits to lead Missouri's five-hit attack.

Paige Lowary (11-2) took the loss in relief of Tori Finucane. Lowary pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing one earned run on one hit and two walks with one strikeout.

Finucane pitched the first 52/3 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out three.

Georgia is now 31-10 overall and 8-6 in the Southeastern Conference, while Missouri is 24-9 and 6-6.

The Tigers return to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday, as they host a non-conference doubleheader against Northern Iowa.
