Central Missouri routs Lincoln

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Central Missouri baseball team had a pair of perfect innings Friday afternoon.

As in a Perfect 10.

The Mules scored 10 runs in both the third and sixth innings - squeezing in seven more runs in the frames between them - and ripped the Lincoln Blue Tigers 27-4.

It was the most runs scored by Central Missouri since the Mules put up a school-record 32 against Washburn during the 2004 season.

Neither team scored in the game's first two innings, with Lincoln finally breaking through with a two-run top of the third on a sacrifice fly by Dillon Walker and an RBI single by Kaleb Davis.

Central Missouri answered with a vengeance in the bottom of that stanza, collecting its 10 runs on eight hits, one error, one intentional walk and one hit batter.

The Mules added three in the fourth to make it 13-2.

Lincoln got two in the top of the fifth - one scoring on an error and the other on a wild pitch - but Central Missouri doubled that in the bottom of the inning to make it 17-4.

The Mules then put together their 10-run sixth, starting with back-to-back homers and following them with seven more hits, two walks and one error.

Central Missouri had a 24-6 edge in hits. No Lincoln player had more than one hit, and Christian Bunch had the Blue Tigers' only extra-base hit with a double.

Tyler Roberts (0-4) started and took the loss for the Blue Tigers. He gave up six earned runs on four hits and three walks in 21/3 innings of work.

Jordan Barrett followed and gave up 11 runs (eight earned) in 21/3 innings. He allowed 11 hits and walked two with two strikeouts.

Jameson Mahan was up next, and he gave up two earned runs on two hits in one-third of an inning. Steve Benton also got an out, but not before allowing eight runs (seven earned) on five hits and three walks.

Zach Moore pitched the final two-thirds of an inning and gave up two hits with one strikeout.

The Mules are now 18-14 overall and 14-9 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. Lincoln dropped to 1-28 overall and 1-18 in league play.

The teams will wrap up their four-game series with a single game today. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
