Former Missouri mail carrier pleads guilty to stealing mail

ROGERSVILLE, Mo. (AP) - An Arizona woman has admitted that she stole mail while working as a substitute carrier in southwest Missouri.

Federal prosecutors say 39-year-old Margi Greek, of Omaha, Arizona, pleaded guilty Tuesday to theft of mail by an officer or employee.

Greek was a substitute rural carrier in Rogersville from November 2013 until November 2014, when she was fired.

Prosecutors say after several people on Greek's route complained about missing mail agents set up fake mail with greeting cards and cash and later saw her redeeming the gift cards.

Agents found a dozen unopened pieces of mail that contained gift cards in her car. Greek told authorities she used about $200 in gift cards and $200 in cash to buy gasoline and food.

No sentencing date has been scheduled.
