Area teams hold spots in football rankings

There was no movement for area teams in this week's state high school football rankings.

Two of the teams maintained their No. 2 spots in their respective classes - the Helias Crusaders in Class 4 and the California Pintos in Class 3.

The Crusaders and Pintos both figure to be tested Friday. Helias (6-0) will travel to Columbia to face the Rock Bridge Bruins (4-2, No. 10 in Class 6) and California (6-0) will host the Blair Oaks Falcons (5-1, No. 7 in Class 3) for Homecoming in a game that should go a long way in deciding the Tri-County Conference championship.

The South Callaway Bulldogs remain at No. 3 in Class 2. The Bulldogs will host Montgomery County on Friday.

There was a shakeup at the top of the Class 6 rankings this week as Hazelwood Central (6-0) takes over the top spot. The Hawks received 14 of the 15 first-place votes from media members around the state. C.B.C., ranked No. 4, got the other top vote.

Lee's Summit West fell from No. 1 to No. 7 after losing to Lee's Summit.

The other No. 1 teams remain the same - Fort Osage in Class 5, Webb City in Class 4, Maryville in Class 3, Lamar in Class 2 and Ste. Genevieve Valle in Class 1.
