Westminster football falls to St. Scholastica

FULTON - The Westminster football team was unable to make a 17-3 lead hold up and dropped a 31-24 decision to the College of St. Scholastica Saints on Saturday.

Austin Kempker (Blair Oaks High School) caught a 1-yard touchdown pass that gave the Blue Jays that 17-3 lead midway through the second quarter, and the score was 17-10 at halftime.

Mike Washington (Jefferson City High School) caught an 83-yard scoring pass with 10:12 left in the third quarter that tied the game at 24. But St. Scholastica got the winning touchdown four minutes later.

Washington ended up with three catches for 110 yards, while Kempker caught a team-high five balls for 57 yards. C.J. Vaughan (Jefferson City High School) had two catches for 25 yards.

Bret Robertson (California High School) had eight tackles for Westminster.

The Blue Jays are now 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
