Helias volleyball ties school mark by winning 25th straight

CARL JUNCTION - The Helias volleyball team tied the school record for consecutive victories while winning the Carl Junction Tournament on Saturday.

Helias went 6-0 in the event to move to 25-0 on the season. The 25 straight wins matches the feat pulled off by the 2009 squad. Helias will try to break the mark tonight at Battle.

In the 16-team tournament, Helias went 3-0 in pool play, beating Lebanon (25-15, 25-14), Webb City (25-13, 25-14) and Neosho (25-12, 25-16).

In the quarterfinals, Helias beat Northwest: Cedar Hill 25-21, 25-14. The Lady Crusaders then beat Nevada in the semifinals 25-16, 25-6.

The Lady Crusaders then beat the host school in the championship match 25-13, 25-15.

For Helias in the tournament, Ashley Dudenhoeffer had 128 assists, 40 digs and 31 service points; Erica Haslag had 45 kills and nine blocks; and Tory Wiley had 36 kills and five blocks.

Also, Lindsey Griggs added 27 kills, 38 digs, 28 service points and five blocks; Laura Schieber had 34 service points, 21 kills and six blocks; and Blake Berhorst contributed 58 digs and 25 service points.
