Helias dominates district golf tourney

EUGENE - The race for medalist honors was close. The race for team honors wasn't.

Jenna Kosmakta of Helias, Mikala Jungmeyer of Russellville and Taylor Hayes of School of the Osage shared individual honors Monday in the Class 1 District 3 Golf Tournament at Redfield Golf & Country Club.

The trio all carded 5-over 77s in the tournament.

Helias captured team honors with a 343, 55 strokes better than second-place New Bloomfield. Both Helias and New Bloomfield advance to sectionals as a team next week at the Marshfield Country Club.

Kosmakta led five Lady Crusaders who finished among the top 12 individuals. Lauren Plunkett finished sixth, while Alex Nelson was ninth and Ashten Lorts 10th. Luci Francka came in 12th.

The top 15 individuals not on sectional qualifying teams also will advance to play at Marshfield.

Hannah Muroski of Southern Boone finished fourth, while Brooke Kelley of New Bloomfield was fifth and teammate Ashley Kelley was seventh. Mattison Ditter of Southern Boone and Raegan Wood of Eugene tied for 10th.

Other individuals advancing include: Madison Oliver of Russellville; Eugene teammates Kimberly Wilbers, Megan Evers and Breanna Kempker; Olivia Crane of School of the Osage; Jayme Bittle of Eldon; and Olivia Imler of Southern Boone.
