Jays finish second in Kickapoo Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays upended a pair of state-ranked soccer teams this weekend on their way to taking second in the Kickapoo Tournament.

The Jays opened with a 4-0 win against Springfield Catholic, the No. 1 team in Class 2 which entered the contest undefeated.

Erich Sporleder, Skylar Richardson, Seth Stegeman and Ayrton Omigoyie scored goals for the Jays. Spencer Bone had a pair of assists. Jaston Magallenes and Devin Jungmeyer had one each.

Zach Brooks was in goal for Jefferson City.

Jefferson City then posted a 1-0 victory against Glendale, with Alec Menzies getting an unassisted goal. Brooks again was in goal.

Glendale was undefeated and ranked No. 4 in Class 3.

The Jays then dropped the title game to Kickapoo 2-1 in double overtime. Bone had the goal for Jefferson City, assisted by Richardson.

Jefferson City (8-3) is back in action Tuesday at Battle in Columbia. The JV game will start at 5 p.m., with the varsity to follow around 6:45 p.m.
