Helias' Shea takes second at Hancock Invitational

ST. LOUIS - Kaitlyn Shea of Helias finished second in the Class 3 girls individual race while the Lady Crusaders finished third in the Class 3 team standings Saturday at the Hancock Cross Country Invitational.

Shea finished with a time of 19:50.89 to lead three Lady Crusaders in the top 11. Kayla Yanskey finished fourth in 20:07.81, while Kylie Frank was 11th in 21:07.66.

Carolyn White of Festus won the event in 19:35.86.

Helias finished with 103 team points. Festus was first with 63, four better than runner-up MICDS in the 16-team field.

In the JV girls race, Helias took first place with a team total of 42 points. Lanie Hentges (second, 23:05.59), Alicia Engelbrecht (sixth, 23:24.35) and Hannah Crane (ninth, 23:36.68) claimed top-10 spots for the Lady Crusaders.

On the boys side, Elliot Knerschield finished 11th in 17:56.31 to pace Helias in the Class 3 race.

Ben Naeger of St. Genevieve won the Class 3 boys race by more than a minute with a time of 16:19.69.

The Crusaders finished 12th in the Class 3 team standings with 317 points. Cape Girardeau Notre Dame (72), Festus (88) and Ste. Genevieve (95) claimed the top three spots.
