BizBeat: Village Square gets two new businesses, undergoes construction

While driving down Jefferson City's East McCarty Street, many may have noticed recent construction in Warwick Village.

Village Square owners Hank and Linda Stratman hired Bill's Roofing of Holts Summit to give the Landmark Lodge, which houses Brew House Coffee and loft apartments, a new roof.

Stratman said the shingles are titled "New England Slate" and the construction should be complete at any time. The construction closed Brew House Coffee for one full day last week, and closed its drive-thru window for a few days.

Construction isn't the only new thing going on in the Village Square. The cluster of buildings now houses Spill My Cup Photography. Photographer and business owner Shirley Marsh moved her business out of her Henley home and into Suite 60 on the Square just two weeks ago. Spill My Cup has been in business for around nine years. Having a storefront for the first time, Marsh said her customers are already taking advantage of the convenience it brings.

"The convenience for customers ... we're now in a nice central location, customers are already using it like crazy," she said.

Spill My Cup is offering move-in specials throughout the month of October. They capture sports photography, weddings, families, military balls, church directories and more. Marsh will have office hours on Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and by appointment. For more information, check out the business's website at spillmycup.com or "like" their Facebook page.

Another business will be opening in The Village Square come Nov. 1. Vines, a wine and tapas bar, will utilize the Landmark Lodge as an evening venue. Lori Smith, a wine lover, and her two sisters are opening the bar, hoping to create a homey atmosphere.

In her travels, Smith has visited many tapas (meaning small plates) bars and wanted to bring the idea to the Capital City. Along with the tapas, Vines will feature a variety of California wines - six red, six white, and a couple of blends. They'll also offer a few bottled domestic beers. The wine bar will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 4-9 p.m.

"We have a private room upstairs that can be rented. Book your Christmas parties now," Smith said.

The business will open Nov. 1 and hopes to have a Facebook page created prior to its opening.
