Blair Oaks knocks off unbeaten Indians

WARDSVILLE, Mo. - The School of the Osage Indians had as many passing yards - 5 - as the number of interceptions hauled in by the Blair Oaks defense, and the Falcons celebrated Homecoming by romping to a 55-6 win Friday night.

The Falcons got picks from C.J. Closser, Caleb Bischoff, Alex Gaydos, Adam Schell and Dalton Lage while making the Indians one-dimensional. And that other dimension wasn't great, either, as Osage had just 124 yards rushing, and 82 of them came against the third-stringers when the lead was 55-0.

Blair Oaks, meanwhile, racked up 345 yards of total offense - 228 rushing and 117 passing - to knock Osage from the ranks of the unbeaten. The Falcons are now 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Tri-County Conference, while the Indians fall to 5-1 and 3-1.

"It was fun to watch," Blair Oaks coach Brad Drehle said. "That's one where you know that Homecoming means something to the seniors. To go out and play like that was special."

After one quarter, it was 21-0. By halftime, it was 48-0 and the celebration was in full swing.

The tone was set from the start, as the Falcons held the Indians to minus-2 yards on their first three plays and forced a punt. Blair Oaks then went 48 yards in seven plays, capped by a 21-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Hair to Mikel Drehle at the 7:51 mark of the first quarter.

The Falcons didn't score on their next possession, but they did on their next five.

Bischoff capped a 10-play, 61-yard drive with a 12-yard scoring run with 1:06 left in the period. After Osage fumbled on the very next play, Blair Oaks went 34 yards in five plays, capped by a 2-yard run by Bischoff with :20 left in the quarter.

"We just got opportunities and made plays," Bischoff said.

Bischoff got his third score of the game on a 4-yard run with 9:55 left in the second quarter, before Hair scored on a 9-yard run with 7:49 left before intermission.

Hair and Drehle then hooked up again, this time from 8 yards out, for a touchdown with 5:16 left in the half.

Then with 4:35 left before the break, Cole Stockman got a defensive score for the second straight week, as he scooped up the ball after Bischoff forced a fumble and ran it in from 15 yards out.

The Falcons' final score came with 1:10 left in the third quarter when Jacob Wilbers caught a 7-yard pass from Hair.

After three quarters, when the starters went to the sidelines, the Falcons had allowed just 46 yards.

"The defense played well, the offensive line played an awesome ballgame, you couldn't ask for a better complete game than that," Brad Drehle said.

The Falcons return to action at 7 p.m. Friday when they travel to California.
