Chase suspect caught in Russellville

The man wanted by Cole County authorities after driving off from a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon was taken into custody Thursday.

Authorities said Matthew Haulenbeek, 24, was taken into custody around 11:30 a.m. at Russellville residence after investigators received information he may have been at the location.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Haulenbeek had been wanted for a probation violation, with a no-bond warrant. He now faces possible charges of felony resisting arrest, careless and imprudent driving and possession of methamphetamine.

The pursuit began after the sheriff's department responded to the 700 block of Deer Creek Road for a call about a possible narcotics violation Tuesday afternoon. The license plate of the vehicle in question was checked, and the vehicle was located and stopped at the Rainbow Market on Rainbow Drive.

The driver was later identified as Haulenbeek.

When the deputy got out of his patrol vehicle to talk with Haulenbeek, he left at a high rate of speed. The deputy chased Haulenbeek from just outside Jefferson City into rural Miller County, and Haulenbeek took many side roads in an attempt to lose the deputy.

During that chase, Haulenbeek bailed out of his car in the 100 block of Hackberry Road and ran into the woods. Because of the rural area, authorities couldn't set up a perimeter.
