Helias goes 2-3 at softball tourney

LIBERTY, Mo. - The Lady Crusaders went 2-3 in the Liberty tournament Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, Grain Valley topped Helias 5-4.

Lindsey Steinbeck went the distance, allowing two earned runs while striking out a pair. Lauren Morrow hit a two-run home run while Kayli Lecuru added a solo shot.

Pleasant Hill also defeated the Lady Crusaders on Friday, 10-2.

Lauren Morrow went 3-for-3 with a home run, while Kayli Lecuru added two hits.

Liberty prolonged Helias' rough day with an 8-0 win. Julie Harris, Grace Dittmer and Haley Kempker each singled.

Things started better Saturday for Helias, as the Lady Crusaders topped Fort Osage 11-4.

Allie Ashcraft picked up the win, allowing three runs on four hits with one strikeout. Steinbeck picked up the save, striking out two. Julie Harris went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Jordyn Nappier was 3-4 with three runs and an RBI. Dittmer went 2-for-4 with two RBI, LeCuru was 3-of-4 with two RBI, and Kempker hit 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

Helias picked up its second win Saturday with a 12-10 defeat of Smithville.

Steinbeck was the winning pitcher. She allowed two runs on seven hits, striking out four. Lecuru went 4-of-5 with two RBI and two runs. Harris collected two hits and scored three runs. Morrow was 2-of-4 with two RBI, Kempker was 3-of-5 with two RBI and two runs, and Steinbeck also had two hits and two RBI.

Helias won the bronze bracket with its two Saturday wins.
