BizBeat: Fazoli's closing Jefferson City restaurant

Fazoli's, an Italian restaurant chain known for its pasta and unlimited garlic breadsticks, plans to close its Jefferson City location on Oct. 1.

"The lease was up, and Fazolis could not reach an agreement with the landlord," said spokeswoman Melissa Rapp in an emailed response to questions.

The Jefferson City Fazoli's is located at 2333 Missouri Blvd.

The privately-owned company based in Lexington, Kentucky, started in 1989 and operates around 216 restaurants in 26 states.

The Missouri Boulevard store was opened in November 1994, Rapp said. As of October, the closest Fazoli's will be in Columbia.

The chain was sold in 2006 and has made significant changes to its menu twice since then.

The building Fazoli's occupies is owned by Maxwell and Kolb LLC. Larry Kolb said he and his business partner aren't ready to announce plans they have for the building.

Rapp said Friday: "We are always looking for new opportunities, but (have) nothing specific in Jefferson City to report at this time."

The Jefferson City restaurant has 30 employees.

Rapp said Friday: "Fazoli's always tries to accommodate their employees who wish to continue their employment with Fazoli's. In this instance, Columbia would be the closest restaurant to which to transfer."
