After holdup, suspect leads area police on car chase

A man suspected of burglarizing an Eldon convenience store and leading Eldon police on a high-speed chase early Sunday morning was caught more than two hours later after assistance from three other law enforcement agencies.

The Eldon Police Department is not releasing the man's name pending charges.

At 2:37 a.m., police received a call of an armed robbery in progress at Jiffy Stop, according to a news release. The suspect had confronted a clerk with a handgun.

Officers arrived and confronted the man at the gas pumps.

He appeared to have a handgun in his hands. The suspect failed to obey commands from an officer, and led police on a high-speed chase.

The suspected wrecked the vehicle on Business 54, about 2 miles from Jiffy Stop, and then fled on foot.

Several off-duty Eldon officers, the Missouri Highway Patrol, officers from the Miller County Sheriff's Department and an Osage Beach K-9 unit began looking for the suspect.

They caught him on foot about a half mile from the scene of the crash and took him into custody.
