Your Opinion: Who approves of Obama's job performance?

Dear Editor:

Who are the 40 percent who, according to a WSJ/NBC poll, still approve of Obama's overall job performance? A recent WSJ/NBC poll asked people which party they thought would do a better job on certain issues: On reducing the federal deficit the GOP won by 18 percent; On dealing with foreign policy the GOP won by 18 percent; On dealing with the economy the GOP won by 10 percent; On dealing with immigration the GOP won by 7 percent; On dealing with taxes the GOP won by 4 percent.

Only on health care did the Democrats win, by 8 percent. This is difficult to understand since a recent poll by the Kaiser Health Foundation indicated that only 35 percent of the people support Obamacare.

I can't understand why anyone would think Obama is doing a good job on foreign policy. He bombed Libya and now there is chaos there. He refused to help the "Free Syrian" rebels and now ISIL has taken over a significant portion of Syria. He refused to pressure Iraq into allowing us to leave some troops there and now ISIL has taken over significant portions of Iraq. Iran is merrily proceeding toward having nuclear weapons because Obama lifted some of the sanctions that were causing Iran pain. Iran recently thumbed its nose at the US, by not adhering to the timeline in the original agreement, and Obama caved and gave them more time.

Obama tells us that the Islamic State of Iraq is not an Islamic group. He tells us we are not at war. Bombing ISIL in Syria, without the extent of the Syrian government sure seems like an act of war.

He can't be praised for the abysmal economic recovery. Rather than let the big speculator companies fail he rewarded them so that they could pay executives massive bonuses. The Federal Reserve has printed billions of paper money, with no backing, and handed it out at historically low interest rates. As a result of all this "free" money speculators have driven stock prices to record highs. Only the wealthy, the top 10 percent, have seen incomes rise while he has been president. The median income for families has dropped 5 percent since 2010, yet Obama recently said, "By almost every measure the American economy and the American workers are better off than when I took office."

Again, who are the 40 percent.
