Lincoln running back Morris Henderson tiptoes down the sideline and into the end zone for a late second quarter touchdown after getting past Quincy free safety Shelby Wilson during Saturday's game at Dwight T. Reed Stadium in Jefferson City.

It wasn't until a post-game interview that Morris Henderson was informed about his record-setting performance.

And the news came as a bit of surprise to the Lincoln running back.

Henderson scored six times Saturday to set a school and Great Lakes Valley Conference record for the most rushing touchdowns in a single game while leading the Blue Tigers to 42-13 win against Quincy at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.

"I didn't know that, but now I know. ... Well, that's good," Henderson said after the game. "... It feels good, but it feels even better that we won today because we haven't won since last year. It feels good to get the "W.'"

Henderson had 145 yards rushing on 19 carries to lead Lincoln (1-2, 1-1 GLVC) to its first win of the season.

"Morris is just an excellent ballcarrier," Lincoln head coach Mike Jones said. "He has great speed and he plays with great tenacity."

Henderson was quick to credit the Blue Tigers' offensive line for his success.

"Without them, none of the runs would have happened," Henderson said. "They were getting on the linebackers. I probably just had a safety or a corner to beat. They made my job a lot easier today."

Backup quarterback Owen Jordan was another bright spot for the Blue Tigers. In his second start since taking over for an injured Jacob Morris, Jordan completed 16-of-21 passes for 145 yards.

"The offensive line is what made us successful today," Jordan said. "We really go how our offensive line goes. Our running backs played great. It took a lot of pressure off me in the passing game and I was able to get it to my receivers from there."

Lincoln's defense limited Quincy (1-2, 0-1 GLVC) to 353 total yards and the Hawks were just 2-of-6 on fourth-down conversions.

Quincy quarterback Nick Lonergan, the Week 1 GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, was 15-of-24 for 184 yards with an interception.

"We just tried to eliminate him from the game," said junior linebacker Jeremy Rives, who led the Blue Tigers with 15 tackles. "Once we stopped him, the whole offense stopped working out."

Lincoln got off to a fast start. The Blue Tigers decided to go for it on fourth-and-one from the Quincy 20-yard line and it paid off. Henderson capped off Lincoln's 55-yard opening drive with a 20-yard run to give the Blue Tigers a 7-0 lead with 11:56 left in the first quarter.

Morris found the end zone for the second time when he took it 17 yards to cap a seven-play, 75-yard drive that gave Lincoln a 14-point lead with 8:06 in the opening period, but he wasn't done yet.

Quincy drove it to Lincoln's 22-yard line on the next possession, but Kerry Roby came down with an interception and the Blue Tigers took over at their own 10-yard line.

The celebration didn't last long. Jordan fumbled in the end zone and Suifanua Tuiolosega recovered to bring Quincy within seven with 11:02 to play in the second quarter.

Lincoln had a quick response. Henderson capped a 61-yard drive with a 28-yard run to give Lincoln a 21-7 lead with 8:44 left in the first half.

The Hawks followed by putting together one of their biggest drives of the afternoon, but turned it over on downs and the Blue Tigers took over at their own 28-yard line.

"All this week we just worked really hard," Rives said. "After the loss from last week, we were just trying to get back on our feet. Throughout this week in practice, we worked really hard on our defense, our run stop and everything. I think we did a good job with that today."

Henderson was the to-go guy again on the ensuing drive, this time punching it in from 6 yards for his fourth score to tie the Lincoln record.

It didn't take Henderson long to break the school and GLVC record. On the first play of the ensuing drive, Henderson ran 41 yards for his record-setting fifth touchdown to give Lincoln a 35-7 lead with 1:38 to play in the first half.

Quincy finally got something going in the second half when Chris Harris punched it in from 1 yard out on the first drive of the third quarter to bring the Hawks within 22 with 8:37 left in the period.

Trying to make up ground, Quincy decided to go for it on fourth-and-7 from its own 47-yard line. The Blue Tigers got the stop they needed to set up a 1-yard run for Morris, his sixth rushing score of the game, to give Lincoln a 42-13 lead with 14:57 to play.

Quincy went for it on fourth down on its next two drives, but the Blue Tigers stopped both to keep the game out of reach.

"That's critical," Jones said. "The last time we stopped them, we were in a four-man front. When you do what you're supposed to, we can be successful."

Lincoln had a chance to score again, but the Blue Tigers lost a fumble on Quincy's 9-yard line.

By that time it didn't matter.

"This is a big win - just to get playing well and winning a football game," Jones said. "We played well in spurts throughout both games where we weren't able to get victories. Today, we put everything together."
