Jeff City man gets probation for assault and setting fire

A Jefferson City man was placed on five years supervised probation for pleading guilty to charges in connection with assaulting his mother and trying to set her home on fire in June.

Deandre Lewis, 21, was charged with knowingly burning or exploding and misdemeanor assault.

He must serve 75 days in jail as part of his probation.

Police reports show officers responded to the 800 block of Washington Street for a call of domestic violence. When officers arrived, they found Lewis had assaulted his mother by hitting her in the head, then set fire to the residence.

Lewis' mother did not require medical attention, and the fire was extinguished shortly after fire crews arrived.
