Two Missouri freshman basketball players suspended

After Sunday arrests

A pair of Missouri freshman basketball players have been suspended from team activities after being arrested early Sunday morning in Columbia.

Jakeenan Gant and D'Angelo Allen were arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault, according to the Columbia police department. Both were released after being issued summonses.

A third man, Michael James Martin, also was arrested in the incident, which happened at 2 a.m. Sunday near the campus.

"We are aware of the situation involving Jakeenan Gant and D'Angelo Allen and have suspended them from team-related activities as we gather more information," Missouri head coach Kim Anderson said in a statement Tuesday night. "We have high standards for the conduct of our student-athletes and expect much more from them as members of our program."

Gant was regarded as a four-star forward coming out of Springfield, Ga., while Allen was a three-star small forward from Dallas.
