Lady Jays freshman volleyball takes second

The Jefferson City Lady Jays took second Saturday in the Helias Ninth Grade Tournament.

Jefferson City went 2-0-1 in pool play, beating Rock Bridge and Father Tolton and splitting with Blair Oaks, to earn the third seed in tournament play.

The Lady Jays beat Rock Bridge 25-8, 25-17. Baylee Rozier and Chloe Ramsey had five aces each, while Mackinzey Lux had six digs.

Jefferson City then topped Father Tolton 25-11, 25-13. Veronica Allison had six aces and Corrin Lepper had three kills.

The Lady Jays then split with Blair Oaks, winning 25-23 and losing 25-21. Emma Gretlein and Tori LePage had three kills each, Lux had seven digs and Lepper had six blocks.

In tournament play, Jefferson City opened with a 25-16, 25-10 win against Springfield Catholic. Rozier and Samantha Murray had five kills apiece, while Lux had nine digs.

The Lady Jays then beat Fatima 23-25, 25-21, 25-18. Rozier had three aces, Madison Creach had five assists and Murray had three blocks.

Helias then won the title match 25-11, 24-26, 25-14. Allison had nine assists for Jefferson City, Lux had 19 digs and LePage had four kills.

Jefferson City is now 10-2-1.
