Weather slows work on Business 50 project

Cole County Public Works officials said the wet weather has slowed work a little over the past two weeks on the Business 50 improvement project in Apache Flats, but they are about a week ahead of schedule.

The current plan for next week is to finish up the driveways and sidewalk on the south side of the road and begin preparing the roadbed for asphalt paving on the eastbound lane during the later part of next week. Simultaneously with this ongoing work, Meyer Electric will be finishing the traffic signal at Pioneer Trail with plans to have it operational as soon as the third lane is paved and opened to traffic next week. Also planned for the next few weeks is finishing the grading and seeding.

By the first of October, work should be substantially complete with the first two phases of the project and several weeks into the third phase. The scheduled completion date for the whole project is Dec. 31, but the majority of the project is expected to be done by the end of November.
