Holts Summit man sought after crashing into store

Authorities are looking for a Holts Summit man who is believed to have driven his vehicle into a Jefferson City convenience store in July.

Matthew Evans, 22, is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows Evans drove from West Stadium Boulevard into the parking lot of Phillips 66. Without stopping, he drove into the side of the store, pushing the wall 10 to 12 inches, and damaging merchandise and equipment inside.

Evans backed his vehicle up, got out to check the damage, then got back in and drove away.

He made no attempt to contact the clerk on duty at the store, who called police. The incident was caught on store cameras.

A passenger with Evans at the time of the crash later called police to report damage to the vehicle and identified Evans as the driver.

The passenger told police Evans told her he was leaving the scene before police arrived "with or without her."

Evans has an outstanding warrant from another county and previous history of resisting arrest.
