Helias boys soccer falls in PKs

MOBERLY, Mo. - The Helias Crusaders dropped a 5-4 decision in PKs to the Moberly Spartans on Tuesday.

Helias jumped out to a 2-0 early lead on goals by Dane Haugen and Zach Simon, but Moberly tallied the next three goals to take a 3-2 lead into intermission.

The Spartans made it 4-2 early in the second half before the Crusaders rallied. Ian Luebbert made it 4-3 before Haugen scored his second goal of the match to tie it and send the contest to overtime.

After two scoreless overtime periods, the game went to penalty kicks. The first round of five ended tied at 3. Luebbert, Braden Remmert and Matt Schulte scored for Helias. But Moberly scored on its sixth attempt and Helias' ensuing shot was blocked.

Picking up assists for the Crusaders in the contest were Haugen, Nate Mercurio and Grant Stokes.

Helias (2-4) is back in action Tuesday at Fulton.
