Driver wins state championship class in men's horseshoes

LEBANON, Mo. - James Driver of Jefferson City claimed the title in the men's championship class at the Missouri State Horseshoe Championships over the weekend.

Driver is the first man from mid-Missouri to claim the championship class title in the 93 years of the tournament.

Driver battled through three of the top 15 players in the nation, four former state champions and two fellow members of the Capital City Horseshoe Club to claim the title with an 11-0 record during the two-day event. He also finished third in the championship class of the doubles event.

Other Capital City Horseshoe Club members to place at the tournament included:

• Kevin Chambers, third in men's C class.

• Jody Qualls, second in men's D class.

• Jedd Baker, first in men's F class.

• Eileen Reeves, second in women's B class.

• Irene Garvey, second in women's E class.

• Jerry Weller, second in elder men's A class.

• Tim Garvey, first in doubles C class.
