Fulton bluegrass festival offers new acts, layout

FULTON, Mo. -- There will be a few minor changes for the Fulton State Hospital Foundation's eighth annual Bluegrass and BBQ Festival on Sept. 14.

As usual, Bluegrass enthusiasts are invited to gather noon to 6 p.m. on the Fulton State Hospital front lawn for live music and barbecue. The cost is $5 per person - those age 16 and younger get in free with a parent.

Foundation member Tom Harris said there will be some new talent this year and a different band will be featured every hour.

Bands performing this year include the Martin Family, Callaway Bluegrass, Wild Wood Boys, Blue Steel Rail and Dixie Union.

Harris said there will be music for the early-comers this year as well with a fiddler from St. Louis playing at 11:30 a.m.

In addition to some new faces on the stage, Harris said event organizers also have arranged for a new seating arrangement that hopefully will keep entertainers and audience alike out of the direct sunlight.

He said First Christian Church will provide the barbecue as usual, and the foundation will also be serving hot dogs, chili dogs and chips. Kettle corn and drinks will be available as well.

Harris said proceeds from the festival will be used to support foundation projects.

"The core things we're focusing on are employee recognition and client and family assistance," he said.

Harris said he is hoping for good weather and a good turnout.

"It's rain or shine, it's a little bit bigger, a little bit better, so bring your lawn chair and come have fun," Harris said.

As usual, the concert will move into the Administration Building Main Canteen in the case of inclement weather.

Concert-goers are asked to bring their own lawn chairs. No alcohol, smoking or coolers allowed.
