Owensville man killed in Osage County crash

An Owensville man was killed and a Belle man injured in a two-car accident at 10:20 a.m. Thursday on Missouri 89, north of Route Y in Osage County.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol report, a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado, driven southbound by Russell M. Spurgeon, 44, Owensville, crossed the center line and struck a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, driven northbound by Thomas E. Gieck, 56, Belle, head on.

Spurgeon was pronounced dead on the scene by Deputy Osage County Coroner Mike Thomas.

Gieck was taken to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.

• Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident at 12:25 p.m. Thursday on Missouri 42 at Brookview Drive in Miller County.

The patrol reported a 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven southbound by Jacquelyn O. Koelel, 66, Westbend, Wisconsin, struck a 2006 Ford pickup, driven southbound by Benjamin J. Reimer, 36, Osage Beach, in the rear as the Reimer vehicle slowed to make a left turn.

Koelel, who was wearing a seat belt, sought private treatment, and Reimer, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach.

• A California woman was injured in a one-car accident at 2 p.m. Thursday on Route Y, north of Route 2 in Miller County.

According to the patrol report, a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven northbound by Cody A. Branson, 21, Ashland, traveled off the right side of the road when the driver was distracted. The vehicle struck a sign and a ditch.

A passenger, Daniell Gerlach, 20, California, was taken to Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.

Neither were wearing seat belts.

• A Sunrise Beach man was injured in a one-car accident at 5:25 p.m. Thursday on Route B, south of Route KK in Audrain County.

The patrol reported a 1998 Subaru Legacy, driven northbound by Jeffrey P. Pratt, 20, traveled off the right side of the road and struck a ditch.

Pratt was taken to Audrain Medical Center in Mexico, Mo. He was wearing a seat belt.
