Helias soccer advances to district championship

UNION - Braden Remmert found the net twice Monday, and Helias soccer advanced to the Class 3 District 9 Tournament championship game with a 2-1 defeat of Rolla.

"The goal was to see if we can get to the championship game and see where we can go from there," Helias coach Chuck Register said.

Remmert scored the game's first goal and punched in the game-winner after Rolla's equalizer.

Dane Haugen and Ian Luebbert had assists.

"It was just good to get up on top, not let Rolla have any momentum," Register said. "They scored in the second half probably about 10 minutes in, but we were resilient and (Remmert) got the goal with three minutes left in the game. That was just big for us. We're hoping the confidence from that game will carry over into the championship game."

The Crusaders (9-13-2) play Camdenton in the championship game at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Camdenton (13-10) defeated Union 2-1 on Monday in the first game of the four-team district tournament.

Camdenton defeated Helias 2-0 on Aug. 28.

"Throughout the season we've been working hard," Register said, "and I think these players have grown and learned to believe they can play as good as they need to be a championship team.
