SEATTLE (AP) - Second-half substitute Marco Pappa scored in the 85th minute and again in stoppage time, and the Seattle Sounders beat the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-0 on Saturday to win the MLS Supporters' Shield for the first time in the six-year history of the club.
The Sounders (20-10-4, 64 points) and Galaxy (17-7-10, 61 points) started the day in a tie atop the overall standings. Seattle had more wins, so it only needed a tie to claim the Shield, while Los Angeles needed a victory to take the honor for the fifth time.
Pappa entered in the 73rd minute.
On a quick free kick 35 yards from the goal, Obafemi Martins sent a ball into the penalty area. Pappa ran in from the left side, beat Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo to the kick and drilled it into the back right corner for the score.
Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei preserved the lead early in stoppage time by saving Dan Gargan's point-blank blast from 10 yards. Pappa then clinched the win by stealing the ball from Penedo outside the top of the box, taking it in and tapping it into the wide-open net, giving him six goals for the season.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Kendall Waston scored in the 70th minute and Vancouver took the final Western Conference playoff spot with the victory over Colorado.
The defender flung himself at Pedro Morales' corner kick for a header.
The Whitecaps (12-8-14) entered the weekend a point ahead of Portland for the fifth and final playoff spot and had to win in order to advance after the Timbers beat FC Dallas 2-0 in Texas earlier Saturday.
Vancouver will visit Dallas in the Western Conference's No. 4 vs. No. 5 one-game playoff Wednesday night
The Rapids finished the season 8-18-8.
TIMBERS 2, FC DALLAS 0
FRISCO, Texas (AP) - Darlington Nagbe and Maximiliano Urruti scored to lead Portland past FC Dallas.
Portland finished the season 12-9-13. FC Dallas (16-12-6) retained the No. 4 spot, but only needed a draw to earn the third seed and a bye in the knockout round.
Nagbe scored in the 43rd minute on a long-distance shot that ricocheted off defender Zach Loyd and drifted into the upper left corner of the goal. It was his first MLS regular-season goal since Oct. 6, 2013.
Urruti added his 10th goal in the 82nd minute.
FC Dallas had won eight consecutive home games.
REVOLUTION 1, TORONTO FC 0
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - Lee Nguyen scored his career-high 18th goal, lifting New England to the victory.
The Revolution (17-13-4) tied a team mark for wins in a season. They have won nine of their last 11.
The sequence that led to the only goal began with Jose Goncalves feeding a streaking Chris Tierney down the left wing. The assistant referee initially signaled offsides, but then pulled his flag down. Tierney then passed to Nguyen, who sent a shot past Joe Bendik and into the lower right corner in the 35th minute.
Bobby Shuttleworth made a leaping punch save in the 75th minute against Luke Moore's header to preserve his eighth shutout of the season.
Toronto fell to 11-15-8.
D.C. UNITED 1, IMPACT 1
MONTREAL (AP) - Marco Di Vaio scored in the final game of his 20-year career, helping the Impact to a draw against D.C. United in the regular-season finale for both teams.
The score in the 26th minute was Di Vaio's ninth goal of the season and the 34th in 76 games since the former Italian Serie A striker became the Impact's first designated player in 2012.
Fabian Espindola scored in the 86th minute for D.C. United (17-9-8), which closed the season with a six-game unbeaten string and finished first in the Eastern Conference.
Montreal (6-18-10) finished last in the East.
