Man gets probation for stolen property

A Jefferson City man charged in connection with stolen property cases in the Apache Flats area in April has been placed on five years supervised probation.

Thomas Benton, 42, pleaded guilty to one count of receiving stolen property.

Court documents show that on April 3 authorities were called to Apache U-Store, 602 Geld St., where multiple calls over the past few months had been received by the Cole County Sheriff's Department of thefts from storage units and property managers had suspects on video.

The video showed individuals stealing security cameras and going into storage units.

Authorities later towed a vehicle with security cameras in the back seat which was owned by Benton.
