JC man gets time served after fake gun incident with kids

A Jefferson City man charged with yelling at kids and displaying a fake gun to get them to disperse from his residence was given a 30-day jail sentence, but given credit for 30 days already served.

Vernon Hood Jr., 34, of 2305 Southridge Drive, pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor peace disturbance.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows the incident occurred Aug. 31.

Hood called authorities saying there were "bad kids" at his residence causing problems, playing in his front yard and throwing rocks at his door.

Hood went outside and yelled at the kids, and then got a BB gun that looked like a real gun and pointed it at the kids to get them to leave.

Officers talked to Hood, who kept telling them to "do your job."

Officers also looked at the front door and found no damage to it.

When later questioned, Hood admitted to yelling at the kids, but denied pointing the gun. Family members later turned over a realistic handgun to authorities, saying it came from Hood 's residence.
