BizBeat: Wilson's Fitness gears up for big move

Wilson's Fitness has found its Jefferson City home in the Capital Mall for approximately 14 years. It has grown significantly over the years, expanding and making use of the space around it. Owner Keri Austin and her staff are now gearing up for a big move across the mall, to utilize a part of the former Capital 4 Theaters.

Pictures posted to the Wilson's Fitness Facebook page show renovations underway. Manager Erin Bidlack said the plans are finally set in stone and concrete was poured this week.

The new space will feature a new look, bigger aerobics studio, locker rooms and some new equipment. Although the business will lack a little square footage, Bidlack said they plan to take away some existing office space, which it doesn't need.

The new Wilson's will use two of the actual theaters, part of the lobby, hallway and bathrooms. The business will have a new door leading customers in and out, with no separate mall entrance nearby. Bidlack said that will eliminate some confusion for her members.

A garage door is being installed on the backside of the business for construction purposes, but Wilson's will be able to take advantage of that outdoor space in the future.

Renovations are on schedule, and Wilson's hopes to be in its new home by Jan. 1. Bidlack said members have responded positively to the impending move and have even offered to help move the business. Wilson's doesn't plan to close in its current location until it's time to actually move the equipment to its new home.

With expansions and new businesses coming into the Capital Mall, Bidlack said Wilson's was asked to relocate within the mall. A Ross store has been rumored for months, and Bidlack said the new department store will utilize the current Wilson's Fitness space. Ross has recently opened other stores in Missouri, including one in Osage Beach.
