BizBeat: Victoria's Bridal to close at end of October

Victoria's Bridal and Formal Wear will close its Jefferson City store at the end of the month after more than 20 years in business.

Owner Ann Metternich cited personal and family reasons for the decision to close.

Metternich said she has personally contacted all current clients to make arrangements for them to receive outstanding orders. Remaining inventory items at Victoria's, including display gowns and accessories that have been used for customers to try on, have been marked down to clearance prices.

The bridal shop opened on Stadium Boulevard in 1992 under different ownership, and Metternich purchased it in 2000.

"As time goes on you grow, and the community grew, as did our reach out to brides with the avenue of the Internet, so our clientele base grew," Metternich said. "That's when we expanded."

She moved the store to its current location at 722 Jefferson St. in 2006.

"We have a great community here. I think whenever you're selling a specialty good, which bridal really is, and you've got a community that for all intents and purposes is smaller - it has a very small-town mentality, a very tight-knit relationship that makes Jefferson City pretty unique - that works to an advantage," Metternich said. "It's been phenomenal."
