Paving projects expected to disrupt traffic

The contractor working on the project to improve Business 50 West in the Apache Flats area will be paving the eastbound lane today from South Binder Lake Road to House of Bargains.

Cole County public works officials said there will be minor traffic delays throughout the day due to trucks and equipment entering and leaving the area.

On Monday, the traffic signal at Pioneer Trail will be fully operational with red, yellow and green phasing. It is currently flashing red for a four-way stop, but that will be changed over after the morning rush hour.

At 9 a.m. Monday, Business 50 West will be closed to through traffic from South Binder Lake Road to west of Babe Ruth Drive. Local traffic will be permitted to access the residential and commercial properties such as the gas station area, but westbound traffic will not be able to travel past Babe Ruth. The reason for this closure is to facilitate the removal and replacement of the pavement at the transition area from three lanes to two lanes.

A signed detour will be in place from Pioneer Trail Drive to Rainbow Drive to divert traffic around the area. Message boards will be in place to provide more information for motorists. The closure is expected to last approximately two weeks, weather permitting.
