Your Opinion: Rule of law must guide judicial decisions

Dear Editor:

The election of our Cole County judges should not be partisan. Judges, after all, must be guided by the rule of law not by any political party. Our democracy runs smoother when the law of the people is the supreme rule.

For this reason we should all be disturbed when outside money from a political action organization is poured into our local elections from people with an agenda. We don't want judges with an agenda. We don't need judges who are beholden to anyone but the laws of the people.

This is our county, our laws, our judges, our decision. We don't want outside interference in our choices. We, the people of Cole county know the candidates for this judgeship and we will decide who is the best suited. Knowledge of the law, experience, fairness, wisdom ... these qualities should decide who is our next judge, not a wad of cash from outsiders.

Period.
