SWAT raid leads to charges

A Jefferson City man is facing charges in connection with a SWAT operation last week.

Vincent Smith, 25, of 1027 Elizabeth St., is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and receiving stolen property.

As of Monday, he was being held in the Cole County Jail on $100,000 bond.

A Jefferson City Police Department statement shows SWAT officers saw Smith run from a bathroom in the apartment they were searching and found a loaded .40-caliber handgun hidden in the toilet's tank.

A check found the gun had been stolen from Jacksonville, Ark. in 2013.

Smith denied hiding the gun, but another resident told officers the gun belonged to Smith.
