Helias golfers finish first in sectional meet

MARSHFIELD - The Helias Lady Crusaders finished first Monday in the Class 1 Sectional 2 meet with a score of 328 at Marshfield Country Club.

Helias advanced as a team to the state championships, scheduled for next Monday and Tuesday at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.

Lauren Plunkett of the Lady Crusaders shot a 76 to tie for second Monday. Alex Nelson and Jenna Kosmatka shot 82s to tie for ninth, and Ashten Lorts shot an 88 to tie for 17th. Luci Francka shot 89 to finish in a tie for 19th.

Mount Vernon finished second with a score of 348 to claim the other team spot at the state tournament. New Bloomfield shot a 373 to finish fourth, and Eugene finished at No. 7 with a score of 425.

A pair of Russellville Lady Indians advanced as individuals to the state tournament. Mikala Jungmeyer qualified for Russellville after tying for second with a 76, while Madison Oliver qualified in 19th place with an 89.

Two Southern Boone players claimed state spots as Hannah Muroski finished eighth with a 79, while Mattison Dittmer shot an 86 to tie for 15th.

New Bloomfield teammates Brooke and Ashley Kelley finished 11th and 12th, respectively, to qualify. Brooke Kelley shot an 84, while Ashley Kelley carded an 84.

Taylor Hayes of School of the Osage also advanced by tying for second with a 76.
