Area man gets prison for assault

A Russellville man was sentenced to two years in prison for pleading guilty to charges in an assault case from November 2011.

Rayce Self, 37, Russellville, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree domestic assault.

Two counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child and one count of second-degree property damage were dismissed.

A Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement shows Self had followed a female from his residence to her ex-husband's residence, thinking the female was cheating on him with her ex-husband.

At Millbrook Road and Route C, the female said she heard Self "gun" his truck engine and then intentionally crash into her vehicle.

Self's two toddler children were in the vehicle at the time of the crash and were not restrained.

Self continued to follow the female until she returned to Self's residence.

There the two got into an argument after he asked to "inspect her body" to see if she had sex.

Self pushed the female to the floor, but her daughter then laid over her to stop Self and called 911.

When interviewed, Self said his brakes locked up, but knew he'd be going to jail for crashing into the female's vehicle. He said he was upset and was not paying attention to what he was doing.
