Thomas Jefferson cross country finishes first, fourth

The Thomas Jefferson boys finished first out of seven teams in the Capital City Challenge held Saturday at the Oak Hills Golf Center, while the girls team finished fourth.

Thomas Nield (8:44) finished first overall and Landon Dunlap (9:02) finished third. Izaak Sochinski (9:30, 10th), Trent Kemper (12:40, 11th) and Jack Lear (12:44, 12th) rounded out Thomas Jefferson's top five.

Lauren Tuck (10:16) finished fifth for the girls and Mya Drayton (11:06) was ninth. Amy Cook (11:22) finished 10th, Britni Spencer (12:02) finished 34th and Mira Ghandi (12:22) came in 37th.

The Lewis and Clark boys finished third in the event and the girls team finished sixth.

Ben Krause medaled for the boys with a second-place time of 8:55. Brennan Jeffries (9:12), who was fifth, and Patrick Malone (9:54), who was 17th, also medaled. Bryan Elseman (10:38) finished 33rd and Garrett Butel (10:54) finished 38th for Lewis and Clark.

Emma Brondel (11:32), who was 13th, and Elizabeth Dunn (11:39), who was 19th, medaled for the girls. Also, Sasha Campbell (12:09) finished 32nd, Valerie Hurt (12:19) finished 39th and Grace Griffin (12:21) finished 40th for Lewis and Clark.
