Your Opinion: Commissioners urged to reconsider plan

Dear Editor:

It is my hope that our Cole County Commissioners will think long and hard before making their final decision regarding their short-term plan for our County Courthouse.

It has been mentioned by two of our commissioners that, should the cost exceed $2.5 million, and by all accounts, it has far exceeded that estimate, that they will re-think the plan to reuse the existing structure. Fiscal responsibility is often touted when running a campaign and getting elected.

I would like to remind our commissioners to hark back on their campaign promises and let that be reflected in the decision regarding the question of the courthouse project. There will be no "do-over" on that decision. A long-term facility plan needs to be studied and agreeable to all "share holders" before such a hasty decision is made and implemented.

I urge you to listen to your constituents and then act accordingly.
